Mixing Prints

Welcome back to the Fashion Nook! I was just having a conversation with a friend and my teenage daughter about style. My daughter states she likes everything to match. In her mind she really doesn’t consider herself a maximalist dresser; but being my daughter she very much enjoys mixing prints; they just have to match. This is so funny to me! Now that she is getting older she is starting to understand what she likes and what she doesn’t. As a mom who loves fashion this really excites me to know that even though she won’t admit it, she really does love fashion.

I can appreciate the fact that she is not intimidated by different prints and textures. Along my journey of learning what I prefer versus what I don’t, I have started to understand that my style may or may not agree with others around me. I really enjoy being creative. My daughter truly does not care how others feel about her style of dress. She will always choose something comfortable and something that makes her feel good about herself.

Adults can always learn from children when it comes to creativity and style. If you are parent with older children think back to the choices they made when you allowed them to dress themselves. If you are a parent now with small children, allow them to dress themselves and see how they choose what they put on. I guarantee it will be something that makes them feel good about themselves. A child’s imagination is a beautiful thing and we can use their inspiration when dressing ourselves.

When I get dressed I take into consideration my location, workload, event, and individuals that will be sharing my space for the day. Children do not even acknowledge these things. They truly gravitate to what makes them feel good. Never forget to consider your mood for the day! When I am feeling blah I make sure to dress in bright upbeat colors to help lighten my mood and the mood of others around me.

When it's all said and done, have fun with your style! Make sure you are comfortable and feel good about your style choices. We create our own happiness and why not start with your attire? Fashion is just that fashion. Have fun with your fashion by creating a style that defines you!
